How Can a Wet Wine Be Dry?

Dry is a term used to indicate a wine’s sweetness level. These wines are produced, not grown. To turn grape juice into wine, it must be fermented using yeast. The yeast consumes the grapes’ sugar, and then alcohol is produced. If you want the wine to be sweet, then a winemaker would stop the fermentation process before all the sugar is gone.
If you want the wine to be dry, the winemaker will allow the yeast to completely eat the sugar.
Dry wines tend to be acidic and have higher tannin levels, giving your mouth a dry sensation or a puckering in your cheeks. While “dry”, these wines are complex and flavorful and should not be discounted. So grab a glass and pucker up, butter cup.
